LET'S KEEP IT REALLY REAL

Ever read Rodney's autobiography, It's Not Easy Bein' Me? A buddy of mine who was coming up in the Bay Area comedy scene lent it to me. I never returned it. Let me know if you wanna borrow it.

Can't get enough. Rodney came from a broken home, got into comedy at a young age but quit when he was 28 ("To give you an idea how well I was doing at the time I quit, I was the only one who knew I quit."), felt he couldn't make it and went on to sell aluminum siding. In his forties he came back and made it happen. And the rest is history.

THIS TOWN IS POPULATED BY 100% PURE PUSSIES

Found this one in the archives. Chicken was having a bummer Fall back in '98. After the Motang Dynasty tour wound down he was back in Gboro, feeling restless. For months he would dust off a tasty sixer, cut the side off the pack, and keep us posted on the comings and goings back home. It was a major event when the mail arrived—did we get a postcard from Chicken? what kind of beer was he drinking?

Checking the mailbox hasn't been the same since…

A long life, too few Saturday nights

Saw Hayes Carll tonight with a few EV afficionados.

I woke up at 3:40 am today. I worked 8.5 hrs, came home and drank a glass of bourbon, took a short nap, and made it over to the show. If there's any future for country music then Hayes can't be ignored. It was a great show.

If only our man Wood Ear could have opened…

I prefer the album version of this song but, since it's such a great tune, any version will do. And here's a great song off the new record that he did solo tonight.

Enjoy.

Moonshine Dance Party

It's not even explainable, but drinking moonshine will cause you to act a fool. Some time ago, a lot of us drank some and none of us felt drunk, but we all went stupid. We continuously threw a pile of freshly laundered undies into the ceiling fan while I had on Wisa's clothes, and we all wore stripes. By the end of our "New Order" dance off, Darnel had humped and ottoman and butt-dropped on an old banana causing it to EXPLODE. This will happen again on SaTURDay.

"O' zapft is!"

"O' zapft is!" is what German's say when the first keg of Oktoberfest beer is tapped. I usually say, "Oh shit, I need this right now.". Some caps from the past two weeks of workin' and drinkin'.

My own Beerfest

During Oktoberfest times in Germany, drunk patrons are often called "Bierleichen" (German for "beer corpses"). In the South, our Beer Corpses are put on display at the local Food Lizard and surrounded by poison.

octoBEERFEST

Hey kids, this Saturday is BEERFEST! I know you been putting 'em back all year, drowning sorrows and celebrating the good times; well now you can have your cake and eat it too! Celebrate Beerfest at my place Saturday night, October 16th, and be sorrowful all day Sunday.
We're locking the liquor cabinet, securing the breakables, and supplying the barf bags. Got a fresh keg of Drake's IPA to quench even the deepest thirsts. Doors open (loud music, drinking, mayhem) at 6:00. Beerfest screening at 7:00. Will provide greasy pork sandwiches served on dirty ashtrays. First come, first served.

Throw on your beer goggles and come celebrate. Special prize for big winner, but you gotta beat F + K's tie at the last Beerfest (4 forties each).

New Beer!

I like beer. In fact, I drank a ton of the stuff just last night. I had a couple pints of Firestone IPA (which wasn't bad considering their other beers aren't stellar), a Bohemia at a taqueria, and three—or was it four?—pints of Racer 5 (there's some sort of magic hangover dust that our good friends at Bear Republic stir into the vats so more than two of these isn't advised).
Anyway, where was I? Oh yes, Anchor Steam has a new limited release beer. It's called Humming Ale. I think it's the best beer they make. Go figure. Not sure how widely it will be distributed so you might wanna fly to San Francisco and tour the facilities asap for a taste.

Mercury Birds 1997

The Mercury Birds were hands down of the best bands to ever come out Greensboro. These pictures are from a house show on New Years Eve 1997. Oh the memories. We look like babies

Father time diggin' the tunes over in the corner

What I want to know is how Z made it in to these photos. He's blinding me with science.

During this time Vic had a strange thing going on where he could only move half of his face. Seriously. It didn't stop him from suckin' back a deuce of yoohoo though

I'm pretty sure he lost a contact and is really bummed about it.

40

A milestone. Celebrated with rivers, rivers of bourbon, oceans of beer, and the soothing sound of gunplay. With a grand finale in the biggest (and best) little city. Happy Birthday.
