Stripped and gutted . Putting it back together its always more to do than you think ( if you do it right) . New roof  (murrow roofing  ), smashed old tub ,cut out the bathroom and the kitchen floor beefed up  floor joist,  put sub floor back. Cut out all plumbing installed all new water pipe, drain waste and vent pipe. new cast iron tub.New  Electric  (safety electric inc ) .  Soon to come kitchen cabinets, sheet rock, tile(bathroom) ,hardwood floor (kitchen). Lisa and I have  been pulling long days and nights and weekends. starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. post more as the progress continues.

RIP Donald "Duck" Dunn

Bummer News.

Bass player and songwriter Donald "Duck" Dunn, a member of the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame band Booker T. and the MGs and the Blues Brothers band, has died in Tokyo. He was 70.

Dunn was in Tokyo for a series of shows. News of his death was posted on the Facebook site of his friend and fellow musician Steve Cropper, who was on the same tour. Cropper said Dunn died in his sleep.

Miho Harasawa, a spokeswoman for Tokyo Blue Note, the last venue Dunn played, confirmed he died alone early Sunday. She had no further details.

Dunn, who was born in Memphis, Tennessee, in 1941, performed on recordings with Eric Clapton, Neil Young and many others, and specialized in blues, gospel and soul. He played himself in the 1980 hit movie "The Blues Brothers."

He received a lifetime achievement Grammy award in 2007 for his work with Booker T. and the MGs.

BEST HAPPY HOUR IN TOWN

Fifty minutes to the top of the ridge, 70% of it uphill. Up and downs watching the sun fall for another twenty minutes. Drop down the mountain and slide into the market for a deuce of IPA. Six minutes back up a really tough grade to the park. Sun is setting as you polish off another dead soldier. Fly down, through traffic and everything else you sought to avoid by heading into the hills. Back home. See you up there next time.

DJ Chuck Chillout

I got to meet Chuck Chillout the other day when I shot this story for the Times. He was cool as hell. If you ain't down, he got name checked on all kinds of old hip hop records, and broke artists like Public Enemy on his radio show. Legendary. Seems the radio station he works for Kiss FM got closed up. Let's hope Chuck lands on his feet.

True Hiker

Took a 4 day weekend and hike Mt Rodgers/ Grayson highlands . Good times more of these trips I see in the future. We had great weather abit of rain on sat. a.m.  other than that 50s at night and 70s in the day . Saw alot of the wild ponies and a few new born lil ponies. We got asked by alot folks if we were " AT Thru hikers" some folks got the answer yes we are and our trail names are  magic bus,Check wipe, suiciety,encino man .  other than hiking we sat by fires,star gazed (hippies)  talked shit , talked shit and talked shit

Living with a Baby (part 1)

Op's at the 2 1/2 month mark. We definitely have a silly girl. She's giving us some little coo's and giggles from time to time and is full of smiles. We are experiencing some Nagasaki Diaper Bombs that she drops every other day. I mean, whole bowls of lentil soup filled huggies over here.

Ever read Rodney's autobiography, It's Not Easy Bein' Me? A buddy of mine who was coming up in the Bay Area comedy scene lent it to me. I never returned it. Let me know if you wanna borrow it.

Can't get enough. Rodney came from a broken home, got into comedy at a young age but quit when he was 28 ("To give you an idea how well I was doing at the time I quit, I was the only one who knew I quit."), felt he couldn't make it and went on to sell aluminum siding. In his forties he came back and made it happen. And the rest is history.
